Andrea Pirlo has just been appointed as the new coach of Juventus. Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti congratulated Pirlo.
Pirlo was appointed by Juventus to replace Maurizio Sarri. The former Napoli coach was fired after the Bianconeri were eliminated from the Champions League.
The choice of Pirlo as a replacement for Juventus is indeed quite surprising. The reason is, the 41-year-old man has no experience in the coaching world.
Pirlo was only a few days ago appointed as coach of Juventus U-23. However, the former AC Milan player is immediately promoted to the senior team coach’s rank.
Ancelotti Congratulates Pirlo
The appointment of Pirlo as a replacement for Maurizio Sarri has drawn responses from many parties. One of them is Ancelotti, who is a former Pirlo coach.
Ancelotti congratulates Pirlo. In a tweet on Twitter, Ancelotti wrote, “Good luck, Andrea.”
Pirlo had a very successful career as a player. He has defended a number of clubs such as Brescia, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, to New York City FC.
Pirlo has won six Scudetto titles, namely four times at Juventus and twice at AC Milan. In addition, Pirlo has also won the Champions League twice, twice the UEFA Super Cup, and once the Club World Cup.
Not only that, but Pirlo has also won the Coppa Italia twice and the Italian Super Cup three times. At the level of the Italian national team, Pirlo lifted the World Cup in 2006.
An interesting fact was revealed by the President of the Italian Coaches Association, Renzo Ulivieri, that Andrea Pirlo does not have a coaching license. However, that did not make him fail to become the coach of the Juventus first team.
Juventus made the decision to appoint Andrea Pirlo as the first-team coach last weekend. Pirlo got a big task after the club fired Maurizio Sarri from the position of coach.
Juventus fired Sarri after failing to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. In fact, sometime after bringing Juventus to the scudetto, the club confirmed Sarri’s position would be safe until next season.
Before being appointed as the first-team coach, Pirlo already had a contract with Juventus. The 41-year-old man received the assignment as coach of Juventus U-23, who will compete in Serie C.
Andrea Pirlo Doesn’t Have a Coaching License?
Renzo Ulivieri confirmed that Andrea Pirlo actually does not have a coaching license, which is a requirement to train the Serie A club. However, the former AC Milan player has an exception and can still train.
“Andrea Pirlo does not actually have a coaching license, but he got permission because he was following the last major,” said Renzo Ulivieri to Calciomercato.
“Pirlo will submit his final thesis in October, then he will be the coach,” said Renzo Ulivieri.
Andrea Pirlo actually started undergoing the coaching assignment in 2018. He underwent courses at Coverciano with several other former players such as Fabio Cannavaro, Alberto Gillardion, and Gabriel Batistuta.
“He is very focused, intelligent, can analyze the possibilities, and see the future of football. Pirlo is a person who looks forward. He is there and noted it,” continued Renzo Ulivieri.
Renzo Ulivieri believes Juventus have weighed carefully before appointing Andrea Pirlo as a coach. As a mentor, Renzo Ulivieri sees Andrea Pirlo as having great potential with tactics. The minimal experience will not be an obstacle.
“I can say that Pirlo is currently one of the deepest thinkers in world football,” said Renzo Ulivieri.
“He knows more about the game than most coaches who have worked over the years. He’s diligent, he’s really studying the subject, and he’s ready,” concluded Renzo Ulivieri.
